*There are many structures in the English language should be followed by "ing". They are:
Had fun 1-
Had good time
Had a hard time
Had a difficult time
Had trouble
Had a difficulty
Eg: I had good time watching T.V.
Eg: I had a difficulty solving the trouble.
2- spend or waste + an expression of money or time + ing.
Eg: Mary spends most of her time studying.
Eg: I waste a lot of time watching T.V.
3- sit , stand or lie + an expression of place + ing.
Eg: She sat at her desk writing a letter.
Eg: He stood there wondering what happened?
Eg: He is lying in his bed reading a novel.
4- find or catch + a noun or a pronoun + ing.
Eg: I found John using my car.
Eg: I caught her peeping at me.
*There are some verbs which should not be followed by "ing".
1- Mental state:
know , realize , understand , recognize , believe , feel , suppose , need, desire.
2- Emotional state:
Love , hate , like , dislike , appreciate , please , prefer , fear , envy ,
mind , care , astonish , amaze , surprise.
3- Possession:
possess , own , belong.
4- Sense perceptions: hear.
5- Other existing states:
seem , sound , resemble , owe , look like , equal , exist , matter , consist of , contain.
Eg: He talks freely, and I understand all the details.
There are some verbs which can be used with "ing" or not , but there is a big difference in the meaning:
I see a butterfly.
أرى فراشة.
I am seeing my boss.
أقابل مديري.
You look ill.
تبدو مريضا.
You are looking at me.
تنظر إلي.
I am smart.
أنا ذكي.
I am being smart.
أنا أتصرف بذكاء.
I have a car.
لدي سيارة.
I am having a problem.
أواجه مشكلة.
