All writers use certain techniques, some to make the message clearer, some to say an opinion. Recognizing a writer’s style will help the reader evaluate what he/she reads
Style
The way the writer picks words and puts them together. It isn’t what you do; it’s the way how you do it. Writers’ choices indicate their intended audience
Tone
The attitude of the writer toward the subject, usually expressed as feelings, such as: respect, hate, anger, impatience, humor, irony, contempt, delight.
Mood
State of mind or feeling at a particular time. The way you feel after reading the writer’s work
Purpose
The reason the writer wrote, such as: to provide information, to persuade the reader, to cause an action, to promote an opinion, to amuse, to entertain, or to induce the reader to buy a product
Point of view
The way a writer’s interests and beliefs influence the work. Writer’s beliefs may cause their work to be slanted, which means they do not provide an objective treatment of their topic
Techniques of writing that twist the truth use deceptive methods to press a special point of view. Writers who twist the truth knowingly leave out or alter facts and use spurious (untrustworthy, faulty) logic. An example of this type of writing is propaganda. The point of view is biased, prejudiced, or slanted. The writer usually has made up his/her mind and can’t be confused with facts
Writing style reveals the personality, thoughts, and voice of a writer in his or her prose. Effective writing style depends upon a combination of the following: audience, type of writing, punctuation, word choice, sentence construction, and overall presentation
In my opinion, writing is not creative unless it gives to the reader a pleasure which arises, not only from the things said, but also from the way in which they are said, and that pleasure is only given when the words are carefully or beautifully put together into sentences
For these reasons, I find it worth to talk and write about the writing skill. We can all (I include myself) improve our writing. One can improve his/her writing through extensive reading, the more we read, the more we can[/size] write
