[english]The degrees of freedom in translation Translation, by definition, is a process of transforming one sentence or one article into another language. Of course, there is no completely accurate translation because languages are different. Sometimes, there are similarities, but there are also differences. It is the translator's task to present a translation that is accurate in terms of meaning at least. It is natural that the form may differ , but also this is all right as far as the context is concerned. A famous example would be the English word alibi . As a legal term alibi means a proof that someone was somewhere when the crime took place. If we take the translation of the legal term alibi , we would note that it is difficult to present a word for word rendering of this term. Literal translation Literal translation is not recommended mainly because it does not convey the required meaning . An example would be some expressions taken from Arabic such as الجو حار . If we translate it literally as ( the atmosphere is hot) , then English people would not be able to understand its implication. Therefore, it is best translated as (it is hot). Free translation Free translation is recommended , but with caution. We need to convey the message , but we do not have to care about the structure of the form of the translated passage. Within the realm of translation, we need to attend to the implication rather than the grammatical or other formal structures provided that we should not go far from the original meaning. The most significant requirement is the message intended. It doe not much matter if the grammar and vocabulary are completely different. Communicative translation There are many examples of communicative translation. They fall within the sphere of free translation. Examples would be "No entry" or " No smoking" or "Don't mention it" .These are idiomatic expressions used as road signs or polite instructions. If we take this into account , we would note that there must be some freedom in translation. There will be some equivalences where we have exact translations. Since free translation does not restrict itself to the form and content of the text, there will be what we call translation loss. This loss does not count very much because we mainly care for the message. Translating figurative or metaphorical or idiomatic expressions entails a great loss in terms of grammatical and formal structures, but this does not matter a lot, if the implied message is conveyed .[/english] |

thank you for the nice topic, your threads are very useful indeed .So I can add or omit some words to make the meaning clearer For example Translation must take into account constraints that include contexte, rules of grammar of the two languages على المترجم ان يتنبه للإكراهات/القيود التي يفرضها كل من السياق، والنحو. على المترجم ان ياخذ بعين الاعتبار الاكراهات التي تفرضها كل من اللغتين على صعيد السياق والنحو um....how do you find this translation? Excuse me هf I bother you. Thank you |

على المترجم ان يتنبه للإكراهات/القيود التي يفرضها كل من السياق، والنحو.
القيود أقوى من الإكراه على المترجم ان ياخذ بعين الاعتبار الاكراهات التي تفرضها كل من اللغتين على صعيد السياق والنحو و الفاصلة غلط .... الجملة التانية صحية و قوية كتير |
