Jude The Obscure Is The Tragedy Of Unfulfillment Aims Jude the Obscure tackles the tragedy of the non-fulfillment of Jud's sexual and intellectual ambition. Jude the Obscure is the tragedy of sue who has no specific aims.It seems to be the tragedy of sue's advanced and progressive outlook.That is,sue's views of sex and marriage are opposed to the prevailing conventions and code of conduct. The tragic end of Sue and Jude's relationship is due to the malicious fate and the callous attitude of a convention-ridden and narrow-minded, orhodox society.It is also due to Father Time who hangs Sue's children and then himself. Jude faces a series of obstacles causing the non-fulfillment of his intellectual and sexual aims.First, Vilbert who breaks his promise to lend Jude books and Jude's poverty preventing him to learn without a teacher cause the tragedy of his intellectual aims.To add, both Sue and Arabella play a part in frustrating Jude's sexual and intellectual desires. On the one hand, Sue's tragic fate is related to her own reversion to conventional ideas.On the other hand, jude's sensuality operates to hinder his intellectual ambitions. Chance,Fate,Social conventions and Sue's strange temperament are responsible for Jude's tragic end |
