Situational Preposition

1- to indicate the event or situation:
Say: I am at the party
Do not say: in the party.

2- to point at a vertically high object:
Say: The plane is directly above us.
Do not say: on us.

3- to point at the other side:
Do not say: at the hallway.

4- to follow a certain line:
Say: he is walking along the street.
Do not say: on the street.

5- to talk about a mutual group of people:
Say: he is among his friends.
Do not say: between his friends.

6- to indicate movement:
Say: running around the track.
Do not say: in the track.

7- to indicate rapid movement:
Say: run away from the fire.
Do not say: run way.

8- to follow directions:
Say: drive behind me.
Do not say: after me.

9- to indicate average of a certain level:
Say: the temperature is below zero.
Do not say: under zero.

10- to indicate position of close things, and people:
Say: he sat beside me in the train.
Do not say: by me.

11- to indicate two things involved in something similar:
Say: just between you and me, I am confused.
Do not say: among you and me.

12- to indicate a situational event:
Say: he shot his friend by accident.
Do not say: in accident.

13- to indicate descending:
Say: he is coming down now.
Do not say: below.

14- to indicate closeness between places and regions:
Say: China is near Russia.
Do not say: beside Russia.

15- to indicate closeness between people and private belongings:
Say: don’t sit next to strangers.
Do not say: close to.

16- to indicate the movement of getting away from something:
Say: get out of the car before it explodes.
Do not say: go out.

17- to indicate the sender:
(By) indicate the author
Say: this is a letter from the president.
Do not say: by the president.

18- to indicate the inside of something:
Say: did you put the new bird in the cage?
Do not say: into.

19- to indicate the movement of something:
Say: watch the traffic in front of you.
Do not say: opposite you.

20- to indicate the movement of fast ascending:
Say: the cowboy fell off the horse.
Do not say: from above.

21- to indicate an occasion or a specific date:
Say: he was born on that day.
Do not say: at the day.

22- to indicate a high position or placement:
Say: the suitcase is on top of the wardrobe.
Do not say: above.

23- to indicate facing something:
Say: I am seated opposite to the window.
Do not say: in front of.

24- to indicate the position:
Say: we are waiting outside the building.
Do not say: out of.

25- to cross above to the other side:
Say: did you see the bridge over that river?
Do not say: up.

26- to point at something that passed by:
Say: drive past this truck, it is slow.
Do not say: around.

27- to indicate the place or destination:
Say: I am going to the stadium.
Do not say: towards.

28- to indicate a further destination:
Say: he is walking towards the sun.
Do not say: too.

29-to cross something:
Say: we are going through the tunnel.
Do not say: into.

30- to indicate the position of something or someone:
Say: he is under the car fixing it.
Do not say: below.

31- to indicate the movement of ascending:
Say: he is going up the stairs.
Do not say: above.

Really, we need to be careful about Prepositions
