Nasals
A nasal consonant is that the air escapes through the nose .for this to happen the soft palate must be lowered . in nasal consonants , air does not pass through the mouth . it is prevented by complete closure in the mouth .
( m . n . ? )
are nasal sounds , they are produced through the nose
\ m \ is bilabial
\ n \ is alveolar
\ ? \ is velar
The ways in which the distribution of (?) is unusual :
1- m and n and n occurring freely
2 – mediately , ? occurs quite frequently
3- ? never occurs after a diphthong or a long vowel , and in fact there are only five vowels ever found preceding this consonant : I . e . ? . ? . and o ..
In conclusion , the velar nasal consonant ? is phonetically simple ( it is on more difficult to produce than m or n ) but phonologically complex .
