الرجاء تصحيح الحلول التالية

Re-write the following beginning with the underlined words or as shown between brackets.

1-we should not on no account surrender to our enemy

My answer: On no account, we should not surrender to our enemy

2-The wounded soldiers lay in the fields of the battle

My answer: In the fields of the battle, the wounded soldiers laid.

3-The captain who was Spanish was very skilful (reduce this relative clause)

My answer: The captain, who was Spanish, was very skilful.

4-Ben Clinton, who was the president of America, was not aggressive (drop who)

My answer: Ben Clinton, the president of America, was not aggressive.

5-George Bush, who is the president of America, is very aggressive. (reduce this relative clause, and then name the structure of the result after reduction)

My answer: George Bush, the president of America, is very aggressive . ( the structure of this sentence is indefinite clause)

Comment on the each pair of the following:

1- A) They made him sad
b) The made him coffee

My answer:
In A sentence we have 1 object but in B we have 2
In A sentence the word Made means that, they behavior in wrong way that makes him sad.
In B sentence they prepare a coffee for him
In A sentence Sad is an adjective in function but Complement in structuer
In B sentence Coffee is direct object is function but it is object complement in structuer.

2-a) My sister who lives in America is a nurse
b) My sister, who lives in America, is a nurse

My answer:
In A sentence I have 2or3 sister lives in America
In B sentence I have 1 sister who in America.
In A sentence we have indefinite relative clause
In B sentence we have definite relative clause
In A sentence the indefinite relative clause is essential that we can not drop it but in B it is optional that we can drop it without any change in meaning.

3-a) the weather is interesting
b) She is interested in reading short stories

In A sentence the weather who does the action (interesting action)
In B sentence she is affected by the action
In A sentence Interesting is an Adjective in function but it is aadjective Complement in strucruer
In B sentence interested is an adjective infunction but it is verb complement in structuer.

4-a) We use paper when we write something
b) We read about the traffic accident in a paper

My answer:
In A sentence we did not use any Determiner before the word paper
In B sentence we put A modifier before the word paper
In A sentence we mean in the word paper any paper maybe white or black papers
In B sentence we mean by a paper that newspaper
In B+A the paper is a noun in structure

5 -a)To tell the truth, he is not handsome
b) To tell the truth is becoming a difficult nowadays

My answer:
In A sentence we have infinitive phrase that is (to tell the truth)
In B sentence we have infinitive phrase too
In A sentence (To tell the truth) is a subject in function but it is infinitive subject in structuer
In B sentence (To tell the truth) is a subject
In A sentence (Truth) means lies
In B sentence (Truth) means the correct actions

6-a) The confusing exercise will be explained again tomorrow
b) The students were confused by the exercise

My answer
In A sentence (confusing) is an adjective in function but it is a gerund subject in structuer
In B sentence (confused) is an adjective in function but it is a verb complement in structuer
In A sentence (The exercise) it will be explained that mean the exercise that do the action.
In B sentence (The students) who affected by the exercise which mean they are confused by the exercise.

Explain why the following sentences are ambiguous.

1-They found him a good partner.

My answer:
We have two meanings in this sentence
The first one is:

Maybe the found him a good husband

The second meaning is:

Maybe the found him a good a economical partner

2-Mary could not bear children.
My answer:
The 1 meaning is that:
She could not deal with children
The 2 meaning is that:
She can not give a birth child

3-They met five boys and girls

My answer
The 1 meaning is that:
They met five boys and five girls
The 2 meaning is that:
They met five both boys and girls that mean maybe (3 girls and 2 boys and vice versa)

We should not surrender to our enemy on any account.
ولما منبدأ بـ On no account بتصير كاتالي :
On no account should we surrender to our enemy

انتتبه يا صفوت يجب حذف not
وعمل inversion بين الفعل المساعد should و الفاعل we لأنو on no account
تعتبر a negative adverb ونفي النفي إثبات أرجو أن تتابع يا حلواني

هي نفس جملتي ولكن انا نسيت الفاصلة (هفوة مني)
