Nobody really knows what a ghost is; perhaps the most persistent belief is that ghosts are the spirits of the dead.

• Isle of the Blessed:
In Celtic mythology , when the king Arthur was about to die he was transported in a boat to Avalon, Isle of the Blessed .According to the legend , Arthur did not die but recovered and would return to fight the enemies of his country whenever he was needed . Unable to rest lest he be called the ghost of Arthur has sometimes been seen at the Cam Valley in Somerset, the supposed site of the king's last Earthly battle.
Celtic: Celt: a member of a race of people from Western Europe who settled in Ancient Britain before the Roman came (connected with the Celts or their language)
• Headless Hauntings :
Headless ghosts are common presumably because the person felt a strong sense of injustice about meeting such a violent end. In the past, the tower of London was the scene of many executions and is reputed to be the single haunting building in the world. Similarly in Paris at the time of the French Revolution the site of the executions is reputedly haunted by several headless ghosts, including Louis (xiv) and Marie Antoinette.

Reputed: generally thought to be sth or to have done sth, although this is not certain.
• Ghost Presence:
Some ghosts make their presence felt by scents and odors, as well by sounds. During the Zulu wars in South Africa last century, the Prince Imperial of France was killed. His body was returned to his family for burial and a cairn of stones erected as a memorial on the site where he had died. The following year, the prince's mother, Eugenie, wished to visit the battlefield where her son had died, but she could not find the memorial. Whilst searching the undergrowth she became aware of the scent of violets, which had been his favorite flowers, and was guided to the cairn
Cairn: a pile of stones which mark a special place
Erect: in an upright position
• Does the King Live On?
Elvis Presley became one of the most idolized entertainers of his time. When he died, many of his fans refused to accept it. Since 1977 he has supposedly been sighted in a variety of places world wide
After the death of a famous and much-loved person, such as Elvis, we long for them to live again. This sense of grief may be strong that it could enable the human mind to externalize a familiar image which we then allow ourselves to believe is the ghost of the person we love.
Externalize: to show what you are thinking and feeling by what you say or do.
*Do you enjoy ghosts in movies and stories?
A ghostly haunting can be a useful device used by authors to force a character to atone for some misdemeanor. In such plots, the haunted character usually become so eaten-up by their sense of guilt that they cause their own downfall
These literary ghosts can take on a real and familiar presence in our imagination almost to the point of our believing in them.
Misdemeanor: an action that is bad or unacceptable but not serious.
Atone: to act in a way that shows that you are sorry for doing sth wrong in the past
Eaten-up: to fill sb with a particular emotion so that cannot think of anything else
*What would you do if you saw a ghost????
I recommend you to do this, if you saw a ghost, try to imagine it wearing your grandmother's clothes, or wearing red lipstick, maybe dancing or wearing jeans and short t-shirt, that would make it looks really funny and you will never fear ghosts anymore.
* Did you know??
One of the simplest definitions of the word "ghost" is: something that doesn't exist!!!! [/englishtext][/englishtext]
