Facts
I would like in this topic to write about some facts about our country

- There are about 5000 archaeological sites in Syria.

- Syria is the birthplace of the first alphabet in the world.

- Damascus, the capital of Syria, is the oldest inhabited capital in the world.

- Syria was lived by human beings from 500000 years before Christ.

- Latakia might be the oldest port in the world.

- and the stadium of Amrit might be the oldest in the world.

- The oldest 3 minarets in the world are in Syria (Omyyad mosque in

Damascus, Omary mosque in Bosra, al-Hayer palace near Palmyra)

- The oldest Churches and Chapels in the world are in Syria.

- The only four villages in the world that still speak the language of Jesus Christ are in Syria (Maalula, jobaddin, Bakhaa, Kaledoon)

- seven international languages were spoken in Ugarite (lots of texts were found written in those languages).

- the biggest mosaic in the world was found in Hama.

This is what I remember at the moment…there will be more soon

- There is one city in Syria still speaks Greek language !!

- Mummification was found in Syria too.. not only in Egypt.. it was found in Palmyra with its own characteristics..

- The Noria (water wheels) in Hama still in use from the 3rd century after Christ, and the ones we see today were renovated..

- the ancient Syrians never sacrificed human beings except in Menbij where a goddess was called Atargatise, and it's said that this Goddess never get satisfied till she sees the human beings blood !!!

- The oldest hospital for mad people "Asylum" in the world is in Syria, Aleppo.

- The belt of the virgin Marry is in Homs in the Church of Um al-Zunnar.

- The old names of some Syrian cities are:
Homs: Emesa
Hama: Epiphania
Tartus: Antradus
Aleppo: Beroia
Arwad: Aradus
Latakia: Laodicea, Ramitha
al-Husn Citadel: Krak des Chevaliers

Angelica, you really don't need to read this topic or post any reply if you feek it's a waste of time ... however dear each one has the right to express his own personality ماركو, while reading the topic i was looking like why we know nothing about these important facts...???
