Welcome Back!  *1

Every langauage has its own style and culture so in any pieces of "poetry"  translation there must be a loss

That's right! I think once I quoted a saying by Millay here about translating poetry. I remember she said "To translate poetry into verse is to betray the poem!" or something like that

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

That's a great idea! I did NOT read the novel, but I saw the adaptation and it was great indeed! Go on then

Don't you think that the title of this novel has something to do with you fantastic signature in a way or another?

Now new quote:

"Miss You" By David Cory

Miss You,Miss You,Miss You;
Everthing I Do
Echoes With The Laughter
And The Voice Of You.
You're On Every Corner,
Every Turn And Twist,
Every Old Familiar Spot
Whispers How You're Missed.

Miss You,Miss You,Miss You.
Everywhere I Go
There Are Poignant Memories
Dancing In A Row,
Silhouette And Shadow
Of Your Form And Face
Substance And Reality
Everywhere Displace.

Odysseus,

Every Old Familiar Spot
Whispers How You're Missed.

Well said, well composed.

Oh, I miss you, miss you!
God! I miss you, Girl!
There’s a strange, sad silence
‘Mid the busy whirl,
Just as tho’ the ordinary
Daily things I do
Wait with me, expectant
For a word from You.
Miss you, miss you, miss you!
Nothing now seems true
Only that ‘twas heaven
Just to be with You

Nawal8q,

Nice poem  *1

My quote will be from Brick Lane. It is said by Nazneen, the heroine, in the adaptation; but in the novel Dr Azad says it:

"No one told me there are different kinds of love. The kind that starts deep and slowly wears away; that seems you will never use it up and then one day it is finished. Then there is the kind you do not notice at first but which adds a little bit to itself every day like an oyster makes a pearl, grain by grain, a jewel from the sand. That is the kind I have come to know."

Background to the quotation: (from the movie)

The movie is about a Bangladeshi family living in London, in Brick Lane. The heroine, Nazneen, is married to an educated Bangladeshi man who works in London, Chanu. Nazneen does not love Chanu, nor hate him in fact. But she lives a miserable life, almost isolated from the world around her. She falls in love with Karim, a young man who delivers some fabrics to her (she works in sewing as her husband is dismissed from work). However, the movie goes on and she loves her husband in the end, and breaks with Karim.

I did NOT say a lot about the story so that not to spoil it, in case you wanted to see the movie (2007).

A flower to Nazneen  *1

Odysseus,
I saw that movie long time ago, but still remember it very well. I may disagree with Nazneen and would have went after my heart, yet she proved to be the one of a kind strong woman that can handle all biterness and misery just to raise healthy kids.

I would like to interduce this poet who had affected me deeply with her poems and her life. She is the Americn poet Sara Teasdale

August 8, 1884

In the years 1911 to 1914, Teasdale courted a few men, including poet Vachel Lindsay, who was absolutely in love with her but did not feel that he could provide enough money or stability to keep her satisfied. She chose instead to marry Ernst Filsinger, who had been a fan of her poetry for a number of years, on December 19, 1914.
Filsinger was away a lot on business which caused a lot of loneliness for Teasdale.[3] In 1929, she moved interstate for three months, thereby satisfying the criteria to gain a divorce. She did not wish to inform Filsinger, and only did so at the insistence of her lawyers as the divorce was going through—Filsinger was shocked and surprised. Post-divorce, Teasdale remained in New York City, living only two blocks away from her old home on Central Park West. She rekindled her friendship with Vachel Lindsay, who was by this time married with children.
In 1933, she committed suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills.[4] Her friend Vachel Lindsay had committed suicide two years earlier. She is interred in the Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis.

A common urban legend surrounds Teasdale's suicide. The legend claims that her poem "I Shall Not Care" (which features themes of abandonment, bitterness, and contemplation of death) was penned as a suicide note to a former lover. However, the poem was actually first published in her 1915 collection Rivers to the Sea, a full 18 years before her suicide:

"I Shall Not Care"

WHEN I am dead and over me bright April
Shakes out her rain-drenched hair,
Tho' you should lean above me broken-hearted,
I shall not care.
I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful
When rain bends down the bough,
And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted
Than you are now.

p.s.: I copy paste this post from wikipedia. And next I will post my fav poems for Sara.

" A Little While "

A little while when I am gone
My life will live in music after me,
As spun foam lifted and borne on
After the wave is lost in the full sea.

A while these nights and days will burn
In song with the bright frailty of foam,
Living in light before they turn
Back to the nothingness that is their home.

" A Maiden "

Oh if I were the velvet rose
Upon the red rose vine,
I'd climb to touch his window
And make his casement fine.

And if I were the little bird
That twitters on the tree,
All day I'd sing my love for him
Till he should harken me.

But since I am a maiden
I go with downcast eyes,
And he will never hear the songs
That he has turned to sighs.

And since I am a maiden
My love will never know
That I could kiss him with a mouth
More red than roses blow.

" A Winter Night "

My window-pane is starred with frost,
The world is bitter cold to-night,
The moon is cruel, and the wind
Is like a two-edged sword to smite.

God pity all the homeless ones,
The beggars pacing to and fro.
God pity all the poor to-night
Who walk the lamp-lit streets of snow.

My room is like a bit of June,
Warm and close-curtained fold on fold,
But somewhere, like a homeless child,
My heart is crying in the cold.

" After Death "

Now while my lips are living
Their words must stay unsaid,
And will my soul remember
To speak when I am dead?

Yet if my soul remembered
You would not heed it, dear,
For now you must not listen,
And then you could not hear.

" After Parting "

Oh I have sown my love so wide
That he will find it everywhere;
It will awake him in the night,
It will enfold him in the air.

I set my shadow in his sight
And I have winged it with desire,
That it may be a cloud by day
And in the night a shaft of fire.

She did so!! She went after her heart in the end! She loved Chanu, she decided to stay with him. Anyway, the movie is a little bit different from the novel itself.

the Americn poet Sara Teasdale

She is a great poetess, I agree. In fact, she shares a lot of characteristics with another great American poetess, Sylvia Plath. Plath is my favourite. I will introduce her later in this topic, but let me now quote another nice poem by Sara Teasdale; it is the famous poem "I Am Not Yours" :

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love -- put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.
