BIFF: All right, phony! Then let’s lay it on the line. (He whips the
rubber tube out of his pocket and puts it on the table.)
HAPPY: You crazy...
LINDA: Biff! (She moves to grab the hose, but Biff holds it down
with his hand.)
BIFF: Leave it there! Don’t move it!
WILLY (not looking at it): What is that?
BIFF: You know goddam well what that is.
WILLY (caged, wanting to escape): I never saw that.
BIFF: You saw it. The mice didn’t bring it into the cellar! What is
this supposed to do, make a hero out of you? This supposed to
make me sorry for you?
WILLY: Never heard of it.
BIFF: There’ll be no pity for you, you hear it? No pity
! These are some notes from my notebook, I've tried as much as possible to gather the infos. I hope that you'll find them beneficial
If u find any mistakes let me know plzIt is neither the right decision, nor the proper solution as the person cannot solve his/her problem by committing another one. His decision implies his failure in facing life and his inability to admit the rough reality: he fails to be a successful person in business as well as in parenting. His problem is that he high esteemed himself and that is why he achieved nothing throughout his life.
Willy’s takes on life was:’ if you are well- liked, then you will be successful’’; however, success cannot be taken by popularity and appearances but rather by hard working. Therefore, Willy reaped what he had sown. Actually, he admitted his failure but he did not react in any way to make some change and to rectify his mistakes, but he simply escaped away from reality and took dream and illusion as a refuge, then finally he resolved on suicide.
Indeed, Suicide was a sign of Willy’s weakness because his life was a true downfall, he had been living in a world of illusions and dreams, and he tries to bring up his sons to the same world. It appear that Willy didn’t attain any form of success. First of all, he was fired and tossed away at the age of 63 by his boss Howards, because he became worthless for the company after having worked for 34 years. In addition, he could not accept and understand why Bernard, the worm in his eyes and the one who could not hammer a nail, became a bright lawyer, whilst Biff did not achieve anything.
Eventually, he died as a forgotten man because no one came to his funeral except his family, Charley, and his son Bernard
