Royal Wedding Rehearsal

An early morning rehearsal of the royal wedding procession has taken place through the streets of London.

Up to a thousand members of the military took part, including the Army, Navy and RAF. Timings were tested to the second and all armed forces taking part were given the chance to practise their roles in their service uniforms.

Forces left Westminster's Wellington Barracks shortly before 5am. Some of the soldiers, sailors and airmen practising their duties were Prince William's colleagues.

The procession begins

Members of the military begin their pre-dawn dress rehearsal for the royal wedding. Several companies of the Royal Navy lined the end of the route, preceded by the Army lining Parliament Street. Soldiers lined the route up to the Cenotaph outside the entrance to Downing Street. From there the RAF lined the road up to Horse Guards Parade which the royal convoy will pass through on Friday.

The Household Cavalry

Soldiers of the Household Cavalry cross Horseguards as they take part in the rehearsal. Organisers said the dry-run went without a hitch and forces personnel were slightly ahead of time

A royal car that will carry Kate Middleton and her father (neither took part in the rehearsal) arrives at Westminster Abbey at 4.50am.

Standing to attention

Members of the British Royal Navy straighten their lines outside Westminster Abbey. The rehearsal took place after the Abbey closed its doors to the public on Tuesday to prepare in earnest for the wedding.

Superfan

Terry Hutt, a fan of the royal family, sits outside his tent near Westminster Abbey in central London, watching the rehearsal. Hutt was one of the first people to arrive for the event and will sleep on the street in order to hold a prime position for the wedding.
