I'll add these:

as useless as yesterday's newspaper
as useless as a fifth wheel
By the way, there's something interesting about these idioms.
The stress is always on what is between "as" and the other "as", and the "ases" are always weak; they can hardly be heard. :wink:

So, for example,

as USELESS as...  *1
