Odysseus,
Thank you very much for this nice topic

Here is the first quote I'd like to add

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts

Shakespeare from As You Like It

عبير,
Well, Abeer. Thank you for fixing the topic.  *ورود

Thy quote is realy famous and nice. We are waiting for more quotes from you. :wink:

Ok now, Since Abeer has quoted from Shakespeare, I'll  also quote from one of his plays. My quote is from his tragic play Titus Andronicus. Titus has a daughter named Lavinia. Her uncle brings her  but without arms or tongue. Some one has cut them. Not only that, she is also raped by the same person.

One may ask why Shakespeare is a great playwright. Shakespeare is great because he challenges himself. He invent very tragic situations like the situation here. If you were Shakespeare, what would you put in the mouth of Marcus, Titus' brother?
According to Shakespeare, the more difficult the situation is, the more simple the words are.

Now Marcus enters, carrying Lavinia in his hands, and says,

Marcus Andronicus:
Titus, prepare thy aged eyes to weep;
Or, if not so, thy noble heart to break:
I bring consuming sorrow to thine age.
[. . .]
Marcus Andronicus:
This was thy daughter.

Marcus asks Titus to prepare his eyes to cry, and if he is not able to prepare them, he asks him to prepare his heart to break; as if the second is easier than the first.

Marcus is NOT crying her, but rather the words are crying.
I love Shakespeare. :wink:

Thank you so much Maher. God Bless You ! *ورود  *ورود

Now I come to short stories. The following "short short" story, as our professor Muayyad Jajo says, is from book about fables. The short short story is written in the form of verse. It is very nice, we can learn a lesson from it. And here you are :

The Lion Going to War

 The Lion had an enterprise in hand;
   Held a war-council, sent his provost-marshal,
   And gave the animals a call impartial
 Each, in his way, to serve his high command.
 The Elephant should carry on his back
 The tools of war, the mighty public pack,
 And fight in elephantine way and form;
 The Bear should hold himself prepared to storm;
 The Fox all secret stratagems should fix;
 The Monkey should amuse the foe by tricks.
 "Dismiss," said one, "the blockhead Asses,
   And Hares, too cowardly and fleet."
 "No," said the King; "I use all classes;
   Without their aid my force were incomplete.
 The Ass shall be our trumpeter, to scare
 Our enemy.  And then the nimble Hare
 Our royal bulletins shall homeward bear."

   A monarch provident and wise
 Will hold his subjects all of consequence,
   And know in each what talent lies.
 There's nothing useless to a man of sense.

Nice, isn't it?

It is I, Ala' :wink:

Here is one of the most famous quotes about translation    :wink:
A great age of literature is perhaps always a great age of translations.
Ezra Pound

As a rule, man is a fool;
When it's hot, he wants it cool;
When it's cool, he wants it hot;
Always wanting what is NOT.
