New fable again, Also from Aesop's :

The Ass in the Lion's Skin

An Ass, finding a Lion's skin, put it on, and ranged about the forest. The beasts fled in terror, and he was delighted at the success of his disguise.  Meeting a Fox, he rushed upon him, and this time he tried to imitate as well the roaring of the Lion.

"Ah," said the Fox, "if you had held your tongue I should have been deceived like the rest; but now you bray I know who you are!"

It's funny story and I think I got the lesson of it ; we shouldn't judge people accoring to their appearances   Our personalities are definded by what we say , do and believe. *1

Now I have some words were said by Menecrates in the famous drama " ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA " By : William Shakespear .

" We , ignorant of ourselves , beg often our own harms , which the wise powers deny us for our good ; so find we profit by losing of our prayers "

I think that I've said earlier that you're smart ! *ممم
Quote:
Our personalities are definded by what we say , do and believe

*ممم  The most important point in the previous "short short story" is the importance of words. We should think very well before saying any single word; sometimes the words kill. I like to focus on this point.
Quote:
We , ignorant of ourselves , beg often our own harms

True, true, true; We're really ignorant of ourselves. You have just reminded me of a nice poem which talks about this idea. I think That its title is "The Two Children." The poet who wrote this poem sees two children, he says:

A little boy I see,
"You have a wooden spade
Into this tan you dig !
So thee for what thy dig?"

A little girl with wool,
"What are you making now?"
And there those children are
So happy, small and proud.

The boy that digs his grave,
The girl that nips her shrine
.

Very nice poem, I love it very much. The poet wants to say that death does not come to us. We run after death; from the very beginning of life, we run after death. Death is NOT bad; death is like gold.

Thank You Tayma' *1

Abeer,

Quote:
BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS

      Thank you so much. It's very funny, but it is also true. In fact, I did NOT read this novel, I think it is a novel; because in Tishreen University they teach Anna of the Five Towns, and The Europeans. This work seems to be nice, I'll try to read it later.
Thank You Abeer  *1

fllower of the days,
You're welcome again.

Yes It is. This poem is very important. I remember that Dr. Ahmad Al-Issa had read this poem when I was in the second year. Eliot uses an epigraph from Heart of Darkness.
Mistah Kurtz—he dead.
I also love this poem too much; especially the following lines:

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
. . .
Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow

Marvelous lines.

Yeah you're right  *1

But there's another point from what I posted which is more important .
Quote:
" We , ignorant of ourselves , beg often our own harms , which the wise powers deny us for our good ; so find we profit by losing of our prayers "

We sometimes wish something, we want it so much and pray for getting it but this thing or wish may be not good for us and God , for our good , deny us .... we should believe that sometimes when we can't get what we want or dream , we shouldn't be sad because that MAY be so good for us *1

Ok , here is an other great quotation from the drama " ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA " said by the character : Enobarbus .

" When valor preys on reason , it eats the sowrd it fights with "

HELLO I WANT TO GIVE YOU THE FOLLOWING STANZA.THAT I AM TRYING TO ANALIZE IT IN MY SETION OF AMERICAN LITERATURE

A penny for the Old Guy

               I

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us -- if at all -- not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

 AND THESE WHAT I LIKE
Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the   Shadow                                                                                                                                           The poem  draws attention to the actions of the characters in a metaphorical sense. “The Hollow Man” would allow an appropriate foreshadowing for “The Great Gatsby”.
“The Hollow Man” can be seen in many different views, but

but one can see that T.S. Eliot wanted the reader to have a feeling of emptiness.

Goooooooooooooooooooood b in other occasion

Miss Tayma', I'm really happy to see that you care for this topic. It is very useful topic, one can know a lot about other writers' works through the quotations we quote. I hope from every member to participate in this topic. I also want to thank Abeer and every member wrote a quote here.

Quote:

You are absolutely right. In fact, I did NOT focus on this point because I consider it a prima facie point.Thank you very much. You have a strong faith. May Allah bless you !

Also nice quote, You are choosing very nice quotes. Thanx  *1

Good Analysis. Always participate with us, Flower. *1

Now New Quote; Today I'm going to quote from a very great poet. He is Nizar Qabbani, I love his poetry soo much; especially his political poems. My quote is from his famous poem "We Are Accused Of Terrorism", He says:

We are accused of terrorism
If we refuse to perish
Under Israeli tyranny
That is hampering our unity
Our history
Our Bible and our Quran
Our prophets' land
If that is our sin and crime
Then terrorism is fine

We are accused of terrorism
If we refuse to be wiped out
By barbarians, the Mongols or the Jews
If we choose to stone the fragile security council
Which was sacked by the king of caesuras
. . .
America is fighting the cultures of Man
Because it lacks one
And against the civilizations because it needs one
It is a gigantic structure but without a wall

We are accused of terrorism
If we refuse current times
Where America  the arrogant the mighty the rich
Became a sworn interpreter of Hebrew.

It is I, Ala' *1

Yes, it may sound funny but it is not indeed. Animal Farm is a novella and the most famous allegory of Soviet totalitarianism. I advise you to read it .
Each charachter represents sb ,certain groups, or even thoughts. Actually, the previous quotation was one of the 7 COMMANDMENTS but they were changed according to the interests of pigs, I'll add the changes in red
As you see they became 5 commandments after rewriting them

THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS

1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.

Four legs good, two legs better

3. No animal shall wear clothes.

4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
It became : No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets

5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
It became:  No animal shall drink alcohol to excee

6. No animal shall kill any other animal.

It became: No animal shall kill any other animal without cause

7. All animals are equal.
It became :All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others

I'd like to thank you very much for giving us a great chance to exchange such nice quotations and learn more about literature
May Allah bless you brother  *1
