It is essential to know that every lesson must have clearly established objectives. To achieve these objectives, the teacher has to plan what to do in in his class. This plan should be consistent with the learners' level of language, age and purpose.
There are different views of lesson planning, and to attain uniformity, we present this suggested plan for a typical 45-minute lesson with a rough time-allocation for each division.
1. Introduction: ( 5 minutes ) This step is of great importance because students are in need of a few moments to change over from Arabic into English. Teachers are recommended to begin by greeting their students and then by asking some questions to review past material , or to pave the way for something new.
2. Presentation: ( 10 minutes ) New words, new expressions and structures can be presented in the Aural-oral method. The teacher selects the suitable technique that helps his/her students deduce the meaning of each word or structure. Some of these techniques are: realia ( real objects ), pictures, drawings, sketches, demonstration, association, guessing, illustration and translation.
3. Practice: ( 10 minutes ) The presentation and practice steps go together because the main target is using the language, and not only learning about it. Therefore, the teacher presents the model and the students are asked to repeat in chorus, groups and individually. Then students use the new words, the new expressions and the new structures through conversational sequences with the help of the teacher.
N. B: Substitution drills and question- answer patterns might be of great use in this step.
4. Reading: ( 13 minutes ) Before reading the passage, the teacher is recommended to introduce a brief summary of the reading topic, but h/she is advised not to tell the students of the details which they should find out by themselves to effect enjoyment of reading with enjoyment.
Now it's time to have students open their textbooks and follow their teacher while reading the text at normal speed, stressing correct pronunciation and giving the right intonation. The teacher may .... Click here to continue:
